Catalogue Note

Teddy was the nephew of Captain L.E.G. Oates who accompanied Scott to the Antartic. The portrait was begun in Edinburgh in 1918 when Teddy was six and his father was stationed in Granton Naval Base. Draper completed the portrait  in his London studio.
