Lucian Freud remercie Meraud Guevara de l'avoir accueilli dans sa maison provençale, "one of the most delishous, luxurious and tranquil sequence of days I have ever spent". Après quelques commentaires élogieux sur la vie au Paradou, "mode of summer life (...) in dreamy winy harmony", il demande à y revenir au plus vite avec sa femme Kitty, le peintre Graham Sutherland et son épouse. Son retour à Londres l'a plongé dans le désarroi, "completely stiff from head to foot and my blood got hotter and hotter and I've only recently got out of bed feeling very weak and light."
