A German 'Pappenheimer' rapier,circa 1630

with tapering blade of flattened hexagonal section, stamped 'I Tedomine Speravi' within a short fuller on each face, rectangular ricasso stamped 'Toledo' on each side, symmetrical iron hilt  of rounded bars including a pair of quillons with fluted spatulate terminals (now up-turned), a pair of pierced sprung-in plates, and associated spherical pommel (grip replaced)
