Catalogue Note

Born in Carpentras, in the South of France, Jean-Pierre-Xavier Bidault was the elder brother of Jean-Joseph-Xavier. He worked in Lyon from 1764 and was well known for his still-lifes. He was also a fine landscape painter and engraved several of his works: Vues des bâtiments construits à Lyon par M. de Terrebasse, Château de Pierre-Scize, Vue perspective du Quartier St-Clair et du Pont en bois, sur le Rhône. He exhibited his works at the Salon in Lyon from 1786 to 1810.
