Charles Sumner Greene

In 1911 the Greenes were hired to build an extensive residence and garden complex for Mr. and Mrs. Mortimer Fleishhacker on 75 acres in Woodside, California.  Charles was the designer principally involved in the design of the house and formal gardens, a project that would engage him on and off through 1928.  As part of the Fleishhacker landscaping scheme, Charles had more than 100 jardinières made, which he glazed himself.  The three jardinières offered here, although like those used in the Fleishhacker Estate, were used in Charles’ own garden.
