Catalogue Note

The Pratt house andirons demonstrate the same direct approach to design seen in Henry’s own living room andirons.  As in other parts of the Pratt house, these andirons show the discipline and intense concern for scale and proportion practiced by Henry.  While Charles took a well-deserved break in England, Henry carried on with the assistance of the Halls and Emile Lange, demonstrating his own abilities as a designer but always maintaining tight control over any impulses toward excess.
