Catalogue Note
Born in Hongseong, Lee went to Japan in 1935 and studied Western-style painting, moving to France in 1958. Lee grew up surrounded by nature. This, coupled with Oriental philosophy, was to be his largest influence.
Lee's works are in major museum collections in Asia, Europe and the USA, including the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Korea, the MOMA in New York; the Centre Georges Pompidou, the Musee Cernuschi and the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris as well as the National Museum of Modern Art, Rome.
