Catalogue Note
Born in Tokyo, he graduated from Tokyo School of Fine Arts in 1910 and travelled to France in 1913. One of the few Japanese Western-style painters to have an international reputation, he was considered a member of the Ecole de Paris movement. He paints with a delicate palette and depicts French scenes using European models and a Japanese line. His works are in major private and public collections in Asia, Europe and the USA.
