This beautiful portrait of Juana Romani was much admired by critics and the public at the Salon of 1892. L. Cardon wrote: "I saw two marvelous portraits by M. Ferdinand Roybet, which earned honors at the Salon... the portrait of Mademoiselle Romani counts among the most vibrant of Roybet's works, who hasn't ever achieved such intensity..."

In addition, the critic, Emile Bergerat, wrote in Le Figaro that  "The return of Roybet to the Salon was a happy event... in the portrait of Mademoiselle Romani, the stroke of the master is soft... one could not more softly caress the beautiful face, the lashes full of tears, and the fine fabric of her cloak..."
