Catalogue Note
Leathley is a village three miles north-east of Otley on the River Wharfe in Yorkshire.
Peter de Wint spent a great deal of his time in Yorkshire at various periods of his life. When he was young he stayed at Wortley Hall and Farnley, and made excursions with the Marquis of Aylesbury in North Riding. Later in life he visited Yorkshire almost every other year and came to know the county extremely well (see Harriet de Wint, A Short Memoir of the Life of Peter de Wint and William Hilton, R.A., privately printed, c.1900)
