Catalogue Note
Cox first visited Haddon Hall, the Tudor seat of the Dukes of Rutland, in 1831. Over the next ten years he executed a series of drawings of the Hall which were populated with figures in period costume. The building continued to fascinate him throughout the 1840's and he made another series of drawings, including the present work, which concentrated on the architecture and often left out the figures
