Catalogue Note
In August 1773 Sandby made his first trip to South Wales in the company of Joseph Banks, John Lightfoot and Dr Daniel Solander. This resulted in the publication of a series of twelve aquatints of South Wales in September 1775. In the same year, he exhibited a view of Pembroke Castle at the Royal Academy, no.273. Three other views of the castle were exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1807 and 1808
