This costume design for a page boy was made for Anna Pavlova's production of The Sleeping Beauty which was the second act of a three act review The Big Show first performed at the Hippodrome, New York on 31st August 1916.  Bakst then later used a number of the designs he had made for this production, including the offered lot, for Aladin ou la Lampe Merveilleuse for the Marigny Theatre, Paris (first performance 20th May 1919) and then once more for Diaghilev's production of The Sleeping Princess at the Alhambra Theatre in London, opening on 2nd November 1921.  Bakst always referred to this ballet by its usual French title, La Belle Au Bois Dormant.
