Attributed to Gortzius Geldorp Louvain 1553 1618 Cologne

Geldorp initially trained in Antwerp under Frans Francken the Elder and then in the studio of Frans Pourbus the Elder. He became the Court Painter to Charles of Aragon, Duke of Terranova whom he accompanied to Cologne in 1604. Geldorp was predominantly a portrait painter, but he also completed numerous religious and mythological pictures, the majority of which are of head-and-shoulder format such as the present work.
