Catalogue Note

This is an autograph version of the painting by Giuseppe Nuvolone formerly in the Duchesse de Dondeauville's collection, Paris, and now in the Herlitzka collection, New York (oil on canvas; 122 by 111 cm.; see F.M. Ferro, Nuvolone, una famiglia di pittori nella Milano del '600, Soncino 2003, p. 274, cat. no. g153, reproduced p. 409, fig. 91). Another version (116 by 159 cm.) was apparently sold at Finarte, 17 December 1987, lot 159.
