Catalogue Note

Drawings by van Ravesteyn are more or less unknown. There are, however, stylistic similarities, kindly pointed out to us by Michiel Plomp, between this drawing and the work of Jan Thopas, and the possibility should certainly be considered that this is in fact a drawing by Thopas, perhaps after a painted portrait by van Ravesteyn.
