Catalogue Note

This is the first issue of one of the most famous publications of violin music. There is no imprint: Gasparo Pietra Santa signs himself only as the engraver. There were two apparently later issues naming Pasquino and Massimini as sellers of the edition.  Page 62 contains the melody La Folia ("Follia"): although he was not the composer of the tune, Corelli's set of variations on it is the most famous and the model for many others, including by Vivaldi, C.P.E. Bach, Liszt and Rachmaninov.
