Catalogue Note
Upon his arrival in Paris in 1909, Rivera quickly infiltrated the artistic avant-garde resident there. His friendships with Picasso, Braque and others made him an eager witness to the burgeoning cubist movement. But it was during his frequent travels to Spain that Rivera fully recognized the possibilities of Cubism for his own art.
