Catalogue Note
After admiring an exhibition of stoneware created by the ceramicist André Metthey, Ambroise Vollard convinced several young artists including Matisse, Vlaminck, Derain and Bonnard to travel to Metthey's studio in Asnières. There the artists decorated plates, bowls and vases thrown by Metthey which were then fired and glazed.
