Catalogue Note

Porter Blanchard settled in Burbank, California and worked with his father and brother under the name of Blanchard Brothers.  He started with traditional, colonial revival services, but by 1930 was producing modernist forms inspired by the Bauhaus.  In 1924, he helped to organize the Arts and Crafts Society of Southern California.  In 1933, he opened a retail shop at 6605 Sunset Boulevard and continued in business until his death in 1973.
