Catalogue Note

This version of The Day was Sloping Towards His Western Bower was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1912 and made famous by Frost and Reed who published a colour print in colours of this picture. Frost and Reed were the main publishers of Farquharson's work and sold thousands of copies of the eighteen major paintings by Farquharson which they reproduced. A moonlit version of this picture with the same composition is known to exist (private collection). Another slightly smaller painting with the same title, painted in 1910 was exhibited at the Fine Art Society exhibition Joseph Farquharson of Finzean in 1985.
