Catalogue Note

A similar painting entitled Ptarmigan Shooting of 1866 was sold at Gleneagles in 2001. The present picture, slighty later than that of 1866, captures the awe of the highlands and the fall of the flying birds through the misty morning air, as they flee the hunters guns.
