the silver sheath partly decorated with scrolling acanthus leaves against a matted ground, applied with a hook, headed by a mask, the grip inlaid with ivory, bordered by stiff palmette bands above two ribbon-tied horns and a stag, symbolising the hunt, flanked by masks, the steel blade, signed L. van Wagtendonk, Amsterdam, etched with a huntsman, a dog and a deer amidst trees, various symbols of hunting and scrolling foliage
