Tyler, John, as tenth President. Manuscript document signed, 2 pages, Washington, D.C., 24 June 1844, to Ferdinand II; countersigned by Secretary of State John C. Calhoun, with officially sealed address panel, integral blank, one separation at fold. Brown buckram folding case with brown quarter-morocco chemise, spine gilt. president tyler congratulates the king of sicily on the birth of his daughter: "... Great and Good Friend! I have received the letter which Your Majesty addressed to me ... communicating intelligence of the birth of a Princess ... the United States ... will participate with Your Majesty, and Your Royal Family, in the joy & consequent on this happy event; and I beg Your Majesty to accept my sincere congratulations ..." -- Taylor, Zachary, as twelfth President. Partly printed document signed, 1 page, Washington, D.C., 16 April 1849; original white, papered seal, edges worn. Matted, glazed, and framed with a portrait of Taylor. a presidential appointment: "... reposing special trust and confidence in ... Philip Greely Jr. I do appoint him Collector of Customs for the District of Boston and Charleston, in the State of Massachusetts ..." -- Cleveland, Grover, as twenty-second President. Autograph letter signed, 3 pages, Washington, D.C., 14 August 1886, to William Steinway; with original stamped and postmarked envelope addressed in Cleveland's hand, separations at folds, one corner chipped, lightly browned. president cleveland thanks william steinway for a wedding march and a grand piano: "My delay in acknowledging the recipt of your valuable wedding march, is explained by the statement that I claimed very much to tell you when I expressed my thanks [for the] grand piano ... For myself and on behalf of Mrs Cleveland please accept the sincere thanks intended ..."
