Catalogue Note

Dubois' figure of a Florentine singer from the 15th century was modelled in 1865 after he had returned from Italy and ingested the works of masters such as Luca della Robbia and Donatello. It was exhibited at the Salon the same year and won him the gold medal, a silvered bronze being commissioned by the State (Musée d'Orsay) and a further cast purchased by Princesse Mathilde. The original model is in the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Troyes.
