Catalogue Note

This bust represents Louise Demont aged six. The daughter of the painter and friend of Houssin, Adrien Demont, her maternal grand-father  was Jules Breton and she married Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse's grand-son, Albert Ball.  Louise Demont's bust and that of her sister Adrienne were used by the Sèvres factory as models for biscuit editions.  Both busts share a highly delicate finish and engaging personification of childhood that has a universal appeal over and above the specific portrait.
