Catalogue Note

Segoffin's plaster model of La Danse Guerrière or La Danse Sacrée, dates to 1903. The commission for a marble came in the following year. The over life-size marble originally stood in the Palais de l'Elysée, but it is now in the Musée d'Orsay. The model was also edited in various sizes in bronze by the Susse foundry. Related stylistically to Rude's triumphant  Génie de la Patrie  (1835-36), La Danse Sacrée is also inspired by the contemporary antique revivial and more specifically in the antique inspired dance method of  Isadora Duncan.
