South German, 17th century after the model by Giambologna
bidding is closed
Description
- a bronze group of the rape of the sabines
- after the model by Giambologna
Catalogue Note
The model is derived from Giambologna's three figure marble group in the Loggia dei Lanzi, Florence, unveiled in 1583. The fine chasing in the eyes and hair and in particular the distinctive furrowed brows point to a master active in Southern Germany during the mid to late 17th century who had visited Florence.
