with double-edged blade stamped with the inscription 'Andrea Ferara' twice on each face and cut with running wolf mark (rubbed, the blade polished bright), iron 'ribbon' guard extending to a small beak at the front involving saltires incorporating circular panels, s-shaped bars, fitted with a pair of slender rounded bars at the rear, conical pommel, and later wooden grip (the hilt heavily pitted)
