Catalogue Note

Born in 1823, Marie Adrien Persac emigrated to the United States in 1840, settling in New Orleans. There he worked as an artist, cartographer, architect and civil engineer, producing highly detailed depictions of his surroundings, exact in their rendering of architectural elements. Persac's works provide careful visual records which chronicle life in the Mississippi River Valley during the 19th century.
