Ernest Lawson wrote to Dr. Quintard in 1934 referring to this picture, "That little canvas of Segovia looked splendidly in its frame. I am convinced it is one of the best things I have done. Spain certainly gets to you and I think I have something of the romance of the country in this small canvas."
