Description
1920-S, head of Indian Princess right, LIBERTY on headband of feathered bonnet; above, 13 stars; below, date, rev., eagle standing right on fasces; above, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA ; below, TEN DOLLARS; in field right and left, IN GOD WE TRUST - E PLURIBUS UNUM, about extremely fine, with typical weakness in the last two letters on the headband and part of the date weak as well, a small flan fissure on the eagle's chest. Designed by Augustus-Saint Gaudens at the behest of President Theodore Roosevelt, these motifs were initially considered for the twenty dollar (double eagle) gold piece. One of the rarest dates in the series, most were never released and melted following Franklin D. Roosevelt's recall of gold coins in 1933.
