Catalogue Note

"Sometimes it is possible to make a carefree journey into history, which is always ready to be unveiled in the lines of everyday life and in the wider human landscapes. As history is indifferent yet imposing, geography on the other hand hardly outlines its own position among statistic files and compilations. In schoolbooks each country often appears condensed into a chart outlining its main features.

Switzerland for instance, is easily recognised as an alpine green country full of lakes, whitened in winter and embedded in the European continent, recorded for its chocolate, its cows and its famous watches. The idea of a small and imprecise flag that can be hung at home (a domestic place, "Home sweet home") as a simplified geographical site-record, unable to reproduce its complexity, but paradoxically reputed to reveal its peculiarity (artistically formed) and to offer it to a common imaginary."
