Catalogue Note

The great romantic landscape of Stora Sjöfallet, the area where the Great Lule river flows into the Great Lule lake, was one of Osslund's most important Lapland subjects. He arrived there in the middle of August 1910 and stayed until the end of September, during which time the present work was painted.

Almost twenty years later, at the end of the 1920s, Osslund re-visited this motif, executing a larger version which was awarded a gold medal in Budapest in 1933.
