Catalogue Note

The present study is for Tendres propos, 1901, currently in the Cornell Fine Arts Museum at Rollins College, Winter Park, Florida. The original work was inventoried under Les medallions bordelais in 1902 by Braun & Clément as no. 5065, and Knoedler Galleries in New York City registered the work as Femme en rose avec deux Amours.

The style of the work is characteristic of Bouguereau’s late period and illustrates the master’s interest in the study of tonalities and volumes. Although the signature is apocryphal, the authenticity of the work is uncontestable.
