Catalogue Note

Futuristy no.1-2 is remarkable for the number of futurist poets and writers who participated in its production. In unifying the talents of Kamensky, Mayakovsky, Exter, Livshits and Kruchenyh, David Burluik approached his ambition of unifying all great Russian futurists under the banner of Hyaea. This work incorporates some of the most innovative futurist poetry and includes the essay `A Pillory of Russian Criticism', consisting of a collection of abusive statements directed at the futurists by contemporary critics. The lithographs printed in three colours by Vladimir Burluik are particularly fine examples of his work (see: S. Compton, The World Backwards, London, 1978, pl.8, illustrated).
