For several years, Sotheby's, under the guidance of the Design department headed by Florent Jeanniard, has paid tribute to great figures of twentieth century design by holding solo shows, such as those dedicated to Jacques Lacloche, Pierre Staudenmeyer and, more recently, Diego Giacometti and Pierre Cardin. In 2020, a new exhibition will be held in our Paris gallery from 31 January to 6 February to celebrate the famous French designer, Pierre Paulin.
Nearly 40 pieces of furniture, lamps and models will be presented including some of Pierre Paulin’s most iconic designs from 70’s to 2000’s, such as the Elysées chair, the Mid C sofa, the Alpha armchair, the U modular bookcase, the Déclive, the monumental Tapis-Siège and the Dune set, made up of 25 modules. For a week, the exhibition, with a scenography conceived by Paulin, Paulin, Paulin®, will look back at the career of this exceptional designer.
Alice and Benjamin Paulin: "With Paulin, Paulin, Paulin, what we love is telling a story. We have a family bond and a passionate interest in Pierre Paulin's work and our driving force is to bring it to life through very specific projects such as this exhibition that we are happy to stage at Sotheby's. »
Benjamin, Alice and Maïa Paulin intend to perpetuate Pierre Paulin’s work by distributing, promoting and preserving the pieces through the Paulin, Paulin, Paulin® brand. The company's aim is to offer a wider selection of Pierre Paulin's work and highlight the incredible modernity of this designer who was constantly exploring innovative ideas.
Through a process of preserving and protecting this heritage, Paulin, Paulin, Paulin® researches, records, and identifies Pierre Paulin's pieces and archives, and highlights the extent of his diverse and visionary body of work. Thanks to the collection and working documents (drawings, photos, models, etc.) available, the company promotes study and debate on the designer, and initiates new projects and collaborations with public and private institutions. This family business also produces rare pieces based on the designer's oeuvre. Its vocation is to bring to life or nurture some of Pierre Paulin's most cherished dreams.
