After our stand-out season of sales in 2018, Sotheby’s London is delighted to present another exciting and varied collection of Modern & Post-War British art in June. Featuring paintings, drawings, sculptures and studio ceramics by all of the key artists and makers of the 20th Century, our June sale showcases everything that is fresh, innovative and beautiful in British art, from the very beginnings of modernism at the turn of the century through mid-century and the ‘Swinging Sixties’ and on to artists still working today. Highlights include L.S. Lowry’s A Cricket Match which broke the world auction record for the artist last time it was offered for sale over 20 years ago; classic works by Henry Moore, Ben Nicholson and Barbara Hepworth from the high points of their career; and major works by Euan Uglow and Frank Auerbach, two members of the so-called ‘School of London’ that looked to the human body in the existential aftermath of War and which have been the subject of important museum retrospectives in Europe and America in recent years. Spread across both Evening and Day sales, our June sales chart the fascinating story of British art though a highly curated and textured selection, at price points to suit all.
