In an unprecedented partnership between Château Mouton Rothschild and the Palace of Versailles, the Finest & Rarest Wines sale will be anchored by 25 limited-edition Versailles Celebration Cases featuring five Château Mouton Rothschild vintages with labels by outstanding contemporary artists who have exhibited at the Palace of Versailles, including Giuseppe Penone, Bernar Venet, Anish Kapoor, Jeff Koons, and Lee Ufan. These beautifully crafted collectors’ cases honour and celebrate the Palace of Versailles and Château Mouton Rothschild’s rich artistic and cultural history. The proceeds will be donated in full to help fund restoration projects at the Palace of Versailles, and successful bidders will receive an invitation for them and a guest to attend a private visit and tasting at Château Mouton Rothschild, as well as the Versailles Celebration Gala Dinner at the Palace of Versailles on 21 September 2019, during which historic ex-cellar 1945 vintage of Château Mouton Rothschild will be served.
This season’s offering of wines features a highly unique selection of Jean-Louis Chave’s legendary Ermitage Cuvée Cathelin from a trio of legendary vintages, including 1990, 1991, and 1995. One of the greatest expressions of Syrah from the Northern Rhône, these wines are rarely available in full-case quantities and in their original wooden cases. The auction also includes one of the greatest vintages ever made by Château Latour, the 1900 in double magnum; and a spectacular collection of Domaine Leroy, including Musigny, Chambertin, Romanée St Vivant and Clos Vougeot in their original wooden cases.
Amongst the range of whisky and spirits on offer, Sotheby’s Wine is proud to present a spectacular 50 lots of Kweichow Moutai. Highlights include the highly sought-after Kweichow Moutai in Aluminum Screw Capsules from 1987 to 1996, exceptional 1974 to 1986 vintages wrapped in their original tissue; the distinct Special edition and Custom-made Kweichow Moutai in their original cartons, including the Hong Kong Friends of Moutai Special Edition 2012 and the Great Hall of The People Edition Moutai 2009; a very limited edition designed to celebrate The Hong Kong Reunification with China in 1997, with only 1997 bottles produced; a 25-litre Centenary Special Edition with only 100 bottles in existence; and the 2012 Chinese Zodiac Limited Edition Set Moutai designed by the talented artist Huang Yongyu. Whisky highlights include The Macallan Lalique Golden Age of Travel – The Aeroplane 1937 and The Steam Train 1937, and The Black Bowmore aged 50 Years.
