S|2 London is pleased to announce a selling exhibition of non-photorealistic figurative painting, from the 1960s to the present day. Featuring works from Alice Neel, David Hockney, Alex Katz, Jonas Wood, and Henry Taylor, this show will cast light upon artists who have shunned trends in minimalism, abstraction, installation and conceptual art to focus on the people and places that make up their world. Classically trained, these artists approach their subjects from new and fresh angles, consistently pushing the boundaries of painting from life. Comprising both paintings and works on paper, with subjects covering portrait, landscape, interior, and still life, this wide-ranging exhibition will explore the connections between artists working in similar styles on both sides of the Atlantic, in New York, London and Los Angeles.
S|2 is Sotheby’s Contemporary art gallery, offering year-round exhibition programming and bespoke private sales.
With dedicated gallery space in New York, London and Hong Kong, S|2 presents selling exhibitions exploring the work of celebrated artists, such as BANKSY, Joseph Beuys, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Yayoi Kusama, and Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne, as well as shows curated by influential art world figures like Vito Schnabel.
