The 30th of March Old Master, Modern & Contemporary Prints Auction includes carefully selected works by artists ranging from the fifteenth century through to the present day.
Highlights of the sale include a magnificent group of rare works on paper by Paul Gauguin from the collection of Stanley J. Seeger. Our Gauguin collection incorporates a fine selection including his monotypes, a traced monotype and woodcuts, offering an insight into the artist's skill in printmaking. The sale also features a strong group of Albrecht Dürer's prints including The Large Passion, Melencolia I and a pair of rare, hand-coloured celestial maps. Works by Rembrandt feature, including Saint Jerome Reading in an Italian Landscape and the rare landscape The Goldweigher's Field.
Our Modern section features Marc Chagall's unique and vibrant monotype L'Ecuyère au bouquet, a strong group of Edvard Munch prints, including Woman Bathing and The Sick Child, two stunning, hand-coloured etchings by James Ensor, and Pablo Picasso's scarce rincée linocut Portrait de Jacqueline. In our Contemporary section we are offering an interesting group of Lucian Freud etchings including Bella in Her Pluto T-Shirt, Roy Lichtenstein's Two Nudes and Andy Warhol's striking screenprint The Scream(After Munch). Among these, the sale features works by many more artists.
