Following on from the groundbreaking sale of the world-renowned BAT ArtVenture Collection, formerly known as The Peter Stuyvesant Collection, Sotheby's Amsterdam is proud to host a fundraising sale of approximately 120 Contemporary works of art, contributed by artists connected to the Rijksakademie. The auction will raise funds for the benefit of the Rijksakademie Artists' Endowment Fund, which will support present and future generations of talented artists working at the Rijksakademie by covering their research and production cost.
The Rijksakademie is more than a residency: a platform for production and an international meeting place for artists. Today, the Rijksakademie serves as a laboratory for developing talent on an international level. It focuses on facilitating research and production for talented, professional artists from all over the world. Resident artists pursue all major contemporary visual art disciplines. A lot of important artists like Jan Toorop, Berlage, G.H. Breitner, Piet Mondriaan, Constant and Karel Appel have worked at the Rijksakademie. More recent artists include Meschac Gaba, Gabriël Lester, Liza May Post, Berend Strik, Fiona Tan, Jennifer Tee and Carlos Amorales.
