Exceptional Provenance

173 lots of magnums, 32 double magnums, 5 jeroboams, 24 imperials, 1 Salmanazar and 2 Nebuchadnezzar.

Large Formats

We open with a magnificent array of stellar Bordeaux. All the First Growths are present and correct, with plenty of large formats on offer, from magnum, double magnum and beyond, all the way up to the 9 litre beast that is a Salmanazar. Also vying for your attention is a positive swathe of la Mission Haut Brion, a posse of Petrus and more than a century of Yquem, with vintages stretching from 1917 to 2019.

Bordeaux Monuments

A magnum of La Tâche 2009 opens the Burgundy section and introduces a who’s who of the great and the good – Clos de Tart and A.F. Gros jostle for space with Domaines Leroy and Ponsot, Roumier with Rousseau. De Vogue’s blockbuster Musigny Vieilles Vignes is available in no less than a dozen lots from 1990 to 2005. Equally impressive is the Montrachet from DRC and Corton Charlemagne from Leroy, the whole underpinned by Puligny Montrachet from such legendary producers as d’Auvenay, Boillot and Leflaive.

Burgundy Titans

The Champagne on offer is truly jaw-dropping. Dom Pérignon is available in a wide variety of cuvées from straight Brut and Rosé, in bottle and magnum, onto the mystical realm of P2, P3, Oenothèque and legacy. Krug then picks up the baton, with straight vintage lots from 1982 and 2008 and a strong line-up of Clos du Mesnil, topped off with Non-Vintage Grande Cuvée and Rosé. Hardly room to mention the Salon le Mesnil and Pol Roger, Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill!

Champagne Brilliance

Beyond France, the pace in no way lets up, dominated as it is with thoroughbreds from the Gaja stable, all available in parcel quantities. Clearing a path for them is beautiful Biondi-Santi and benchmark Barolo for Giacomo Conterno. And once those twin titans Tignanello and Sassicaia have had their say, the sale concludes with American greats, too rarely see at auction.
