The latest iteration of the Master Works on Paper from Five Centuries&nbsp;sale once again presents a selection of exceptional drawings, watercolors, gouaches and pastels that together chart in fascinating ways the development of the art of drawing in Europe over the centuries, and the great variety of functions that this many-faceted art form served. A key highlight is the finely preserved and exquisitely refined Jardinière de pommes by the great Swiss pastellist, Jean-Étienne Liotard, which leads a fascinating collection of some 23 pastels offered for sale, formed by the late Jacques-Louis Isoz. Other highlights include a newly discovered red chalk drawing by Daniele da Volterra depicting The Madonna of the Zodiac and Jan Gossart’s St. John the Evangelist on the Island of Patmos.
