Auction Highlights

The sale features a selection of important French terracotta masterpieces. This includes the sculpture of L’Attention et la Douleur by Augustin Pajou, which was given by Pajou to Marie-Angélique Diderot, daughter of the philosopher Denis Diderot in the second half of the 18th century.

French Terracotta Masterpieces

Master Sculpture features a group of newly discovered masterworks in terracotta, stone, rock crystal and marbles. This includes an impressive stone Head of an Angel made in the Upper Rhine, Strasbourg, circa 1280-1300, which was previously in a private collection, Strasbourg.

Master Sculpture presents a selection of newly discovered masterworks in terracotta, stone, rock crystal and marble, ranging from the Middle Ages to the 19th century.

Discoveries Across Centuries

Notable provenances have been established for several sculptures on offer in the present sale, including from Robert Seligman or Martine de Béhague. The sale also includes an impressive pair of bronzes of Latona and Acteon that can be traced back to Simon de Gilly, Director of the French Compagnie des Indes, the Honoré-Camille-Léonor Grimaldi, prince of Monaco, as well as the Stroganoff collection.
