Scipione Tadolini’s Nymph garlanded by Cupid is one of the most important groups by the artist ever to have come to auction. In near pristine condition, this beautiful group is characteristic of the Tadolini family’s workshop which was founded by Antonio Canova’s principal assistant, Adamo Tadolini. The sale also includes a beautiful orientalist marble of an Odalisque by a later generation of the same family, Giulio Tadolini, and a magnificent statue of Fabiola by Stefano Galetti.

Auction Highlights

The sale includes a selection of high quality 19th century marble sculpture from an Important North American Private Collection of sculpture and pictures. The collection includes an enchanting sculpture of a young woman caught in a net by a mischievous Cupid titled Love's First Dream (or Woman's First Dream of Love), the last great work by the American sculptor Edward R. Thaxter.
