Giacomo Manzù

Giacomo Manzù (1908-1991) was an eminent Italian sculptor, renowned for his profound contributions to twentieth-century art. Born in Bergamo as Giacomo Manzoni, he adopted the name "Manzù" as an homage to his humble origins. Predominantly self-taught, Manzù achieved fame for his distinct religious and secular works. His sculptures, such as Door of Death, comissioned by Pope John XXIII, were lauded for their unique blend of classical form with contemporary emotion and tension.
