Francesco Guardi Biography
Francesco Guardi (1712-1793) was a Venetian painter known for his finely wrought vedutas of his hometown. He produced modest religious art during the initial decades of his career, but began focusing on Venetian cityscapes after 1750. These works, which are greatly inspired by Canaletto, are characterized by a taste for enlivening details and a striking fluidity.
