Edward Burra

Edward Burra (1905-1976) was a British painter noted for his distinctive modernist style. Though often associated with the British Surrealists, Burra's vast range of influences made his work uniquely eclectic. He depicted urban life, landscapes, and the social upheaval of his time, with a particular fascination for the lurid and macabre. Despite being severely physically restricted due to rheumatoid arthritis, Burra produced a significant body of work, contributing uniquely to 20th-century British art.
