Calvin Marcus Biography
Born in San Francisco, Calvin Marcus is a Los Angeles-based painter who creates stylistically distinct bodies of work that probe unsettling subjects, both psychic and social, across a variety of media. Each series Marcus undertakes reveals his innovative approach to materials, from thick pigment sticks resembling Crayolas to intricate watercolor and oil compositions. His exhibitions are meticulously curated experiences, confronting viewers with tightly-constructed panoramas and maze-like displays that heighten the uncanny effect of his works.
His artistic acclaim is evident through solo exhibitions at esteemed venues such as Karma in New York, Clearing in Los Angeles, David Kordansky in Los Angeles, K11 Musea in Hong Kong, The Power Station in Dallas, and Public Fiction in Los Angeles.
